Every Sunday visitors are encouraged to try their hand painting plein air, in the open air, just like the Lyme Art Colony artists. Painters are given brushes, palette, paint, canvas, and a smock and are sent to paint down by the river or in Miss Florence's garden. All ages and skill levels welcome. There are also hands-on art projects, books, games and puzzles to enjoy. A great way to spend the day.

NeW Art Colony Camps

Mon-Fri, 10am-3pm
Tuition: $200 ($190 members)
Register Online

Day campers at the Florence Griswold Museum's Art Colony Camps in Old Lyme, Connecticut get to create in the same places some of America's most famous artists painted! Artists like Childe Hassam, Willard Metcalf, William Chadwick, and Matilda Browne sent their summers at Miss Florence's boardinghouse. They made friends, played games, and created some of their best works right on the grounds. Campers can do the very same! During our week-long day camps kids explore the art and history of the Lyme Art Colony in their own colony of young artists.

This year the camps have been restructured to feature a new visiting artist and theme each week. Campers can choose the sessions with the focus that appeals to their interests.

Session 1 June 29-July 3 (for grades 1-3)
Drawing Animals with Dan Stegos

Session 2 July 6-10 (for grades 4-6)
Marionette Madness with Yorick

Session 3 July 20-24 (for grades 1-3)
Cartooning with Dan Stegos

Session 4 August 3-7 (for grades 4-6)
Songwriting with Dave Fry

Session 5 August 10-14 (for grades 1-3)
Juggling with Airborne Jugglers

Geared for students going into grades 1-6, art colony campers work together and with great leaders to investigate all the Museum has to offer including art exhibitions, painting outdoors, working with visiting artists, playing historic games, and more. Art Colony Camps include a free t-shirt, all art-making materials, and daily snacks.
